THE SCIENCE OF HISTORICAL THEOLOGY
by Msgr. John F. McCarthy
With a Foreward by John Cardinal Wright
(Imprimatur of the Diocese of Rome)

Science of Historical Theology

Presented in this volume are a new concept of science, a new idea of history, and the first clear definition of the science of historical theology. An improved method of processing historical literature is illustrated by a powerful reply to Bultmann's arguments for demythologizing. The book embodies the proposed instrument for an honest re-examination of the Biblical and Patristic heritage. Its original features include:

- a new explanation of the act of understanding
- a new framework of scientific objectivity
- a new theory of historical causality
- a new approach to the faith-and-reason relationship
The exposition is unfolded in a carefully constructed text that requires no specialized background. Technical questions are discussed in ample footnotes, written on the highest level of scholarship.
Within the sweeping folds of this massive essay are virtual textbooks of scientifically updated epistemology and theory of history. Unique as an introduction to theology, it begins from the insight of the present, reaches back to the wisdom of the past, and draws a blueprint of the theology of the future.

UNGODLY RAGE: THE HIDDEN FACE OF CATHOLIC FEMINISM
by Donna Steichen   Read our review of this book.

Ungodly Rage This well-written book gives a studied presentation and analysis of the phenomenon of feminism, especially among Catholic religious women, during the latter half of the 1980s. Donna Steichen spent twelve years documenting and analyzing the activity that she describes. The book is, in a sense, as Helen Hull Hitchcock says in the Foreword, "about darkness," about "an infectious and communicable disease of the human spirit for which there is no easy cure," whose dominant symptom is the cult of feminism. But the greatest value of the book lies in the masterful way in which Mrs. Steichen analyzes and characterizes this phenomenon from the viewpoint of sound faith and deep theological insight, while offering good advice on how to deal with it. Ungodly Rage is the ideal textbook for university courses on the feminist movement. Read our review

Prodigal Daughters: Catholic Women Come Home to the Church Prodigal Daughters : Catholic Women Come Home to the Church
edited by Donna Steichen

Cast in the mold of Patrick Madrid's collection of conversions to Catholicism, Surprised by Truth, Mrs. Steichen collects the honest, detailed accounts of seventeen Catholic women who describe their journey back from the arid exile of feminism, libertarianism, and other spiritual wastelands, to full communion with the Church. A highly recommended tonic for those who cannot see how the Holy Spirit will ever reach the heart of someone in a situation like those portrayed here, and a source of guidance for those who might be in such a state themselves.
